Adult Beginning: Designed for those who have never put their hands on clay but have often said, “Boy, I sure would like to try that…” This is the perfect beginning. We will teach the basics of wedging, centering, pulling, keeping a smooth rim, and glazing. If hand-building is more to your liking, you can make pinch, coil or slab pottery. Take this class as often as necessary before going to the next level. The desired goal of this class is to get the very basics of pottery set in your mind, and then go on to the intermediate course. Look forward to keeping your first coffee mugs, small bowls and vases. We want you to have something to show for your efforts, but we also want you to have a very memorable experience. Adult Intermediate: Designed for those who have taken the beginning class or want to return to those thrilling days of yesteryear when they took pottery classes in high school or college. This class will go beyond the basic skills of cylinder making and small mugs to complex pieces such as casseroles, teapots and covered jars. More effort will be spent teaching glazes and firing to accommodate the individual pieces. The desired goal of this class is to expand those things learned in the beginning class and push the envelope of your abilities. More demonstrations will be offered and an individual style will be encouraged. |
Adult Advanced: Designed for the potter who is intent on becoming an experienced artist. Moving from functionality to artistic expression, much time will be spent on freedom of design, glazing techniques, and firing variations as well as on preparing the potential potter for an individual show, and critiques by regional potters and instructors. The desired goal is to help the individual achieve their desired status as a potter. We intend to help the individual advance from hobbyist to artist. Prices: All classes are $225 for eight 2.5 hr. lessons; includes first 25 lbs. clay, all glazes and firing. Tools provided.
